Drive Kip keeps records for car owners and runs the day-to-day work of small garages, on the website at drivekip.co.zw and in the Drive Kip apps (Drive Kip for owners, and Drive Kip Garage). It is run by Codestallion in Zimbabwe ("we", "us"). This policy explains what we collect, why, who else handles it, and the choices you have.
The short version
- Your car records are yours. Only you see them, unless you choose to share them.
- A garage's records (clients, their cars, jobs, quotes and invoices) belong to that garage and are only seen by its team.
- We don't sell your information, we don't show adverts, and we don't use your data to train anyone's AI.
- You can delete your account at any time.
What we collect
Your account
- Your name, email address, country, preferred currency and password (stored only as a secure hash).
- If you sign in with Google or Apple: the account identifier they give us, and your name and email address. We never receive your Google or Apple password.
- Sign-in records: the apps and browsers you are signed in on, so you can sign them out, and two-factor or passkey details if you turn those on.
Your car records
What you add about your vehicles: name, registration number, make, model, year, fuel type, tank size and odometer readings; services, repairs, fuel fills (station, litres, price), renewals such as your ZINARA licence, insurance and ZBC radio licence, reminders, amounts you paid, and photos of your car, receipts and quotes.
Garage business data
If you run or work in a garage on Drive Kip: the garage's profile (trading and registered name, logo, TIN, VAT number, tax clearance and its expiry, contact details), its team and their roles, and its work: clients and their contact details, client vehicles, jobs, job cards, parts used, items left in cars, release checklists and signatures, quotes, invoices and payments recorded. Garages add information about their clients; a garage is responsible for having a good reason to keep it and for telling its clients, and we handle it on the garage's behalf.
Plans and payments
Which plan you or your garage are on, and until when. If a plan is paid on the website through PesePay: the amount, currency, date, plan and PesePay's reference. If it is bought in an app: Google Play's or the App Store's reference for the subscription and its status (active, renewing, cancelled, refunded). Payments are taken by PesePay, Google or Apple. We never see or store card numbers, EcoCash PINs or bank details.
The apps
The apps keep a copy of your records on your phone so they work without signal, and store your sign-in token securely on the phone. They use your camera and photo library only when you choose to add a photo, and send notifications only if you allow them (for reminders and garage jobs). They do not track your location.
Technical logs
Our servers keep basic logs (such as IP addresses and errors) for a short time to keep Drive Kip running and secure.
Why we use it
- To run Drive Kip for you: keeping your records, working out running costs and fuel consumption, reminding you before services and renewals are due, and keeping the website and apps in sync.
- To let garages work: sharing a garage's records with its team, and producing its quotes and invoices.
- To keep accounts safe: sign-in, spotting misuse, and suspending accounts that break our terms.
- To email and notify you: email confirmation, password resets, reminders you asked for, plan renewal reminders and answers to your questions. We don't send marketing emails.
- To improve Drive Kip: overall counts (for example, how many vehicles are tracked), never by reading your records one by one.
Who else handles your information
We use a small number of trusted services. Each only receives what it needs:
- Our hosting provider (servers managed through Laravel Forge): runs the website, the database and stored photos.
- Resend: sends Drive Kip's emails.
- Google Firebase Cloud Messaging and Apple Push Notification service: deliver notifications to your phone.
- Google and Apple: only if you choose to sign in with them.
- PesePay: takes payment for plans paid on the website (EcoCash, cards and other wallets) and tells us whether a payment went through.
- Google Play and the App Store: take payment for subscriptions bought in the apps, and tell us whether a subscription is active.
Some of these services store or process data outside Zimbabwe, under their own security and privacy commitments. We don't sell or rent personal information, and we only share it otherwise if the law requires us to.
Who can see what
Your own car records are visible only to you. A garage's records are visible to its members, according to their role (owner, manager, mechanic or viewer); the owner decides who joins. Drive Kip's administrators can access records only when needed to keep the service running, to fix a problem you asked us to look at, or where the law requires it, and every admin action is logged.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and records for as long as you have an account. When you delete your account, your account, sign-in details, vehicles and their records and photos are deleted. A garage you own is deleted with your account if nobody else works there; if others do, you need to hand it to one of them first. Records of payments are kept for as long as the law requires for accounting. Backups are deleted on a rolling basis within about 30 days. See deleting your account.
Your rights
Under Zimbabwe's Cyber and Data Protection Act [Chapter 12:07] and similar laws elsewhere, you can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, correct it, have it deleted, or object to how we use it. Much of this you can do yourself: edit or remove records in the app, and delete your account in Settings or on the account deletion page. If a garage holds information about you as its client, ask the garage first; we will help where we can.
For anything else, email drivekip@codestallion.africa. If you are not happy with our answer, you can complain to POTRAZ, Zimbabwe's data protection authority.
Security
Drive Kip is served only over encrypted connections. Passwords are hashed and photos and documents are stored privately. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password and tell us straight away if you think your account has been misused.
Children
You must be at least 16 to create a Drive Kip account.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will tell you in Drive Kip or by email before the change takes effect. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
